Manchester International Airport is a major UK airport, 30 miles from Chester and can be reached in 40 minutes by road or 1hr 30 mins by rail. There are train transfers between the airport and Manchester rail stations, from where a further train may be taken to Chester. Note that there are two stations in Manchester, and it is possible to travel to Chester from either.
Liverpool Airport is a smaller international airport only 25 miles from Chester and can be reached in 35 minutes by road. Travel from Liverpool to Chester is either by taxi directly, or by taxi to Liverpool Central Station, and thence to Chester (40 minutes). Note that the mainline station in Liverpool is called Liverpool Lime Street, Liverpool Central is a local train station. If you arrive at Liverpool Lime Street, Central Station is a 10 minute walk.
Virgin Trains run frequent, high speed direct services between London Euston and Chester in approximately two hours.
There are also many services to Crewe, from both London and the North West, for onward connections to Chester with Arriva Trains Wales.
